General Training

The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.

EAP – English for Academic purposes

EAP suits students who want to develop and improve their language skills for professional or personal purposes such as meeting the entry requirements for their chosen course.

EAP programs are streamed to help you progress into :

  • a foundation or diploma program
  • your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate degree
  • degree programs that require IELTS 7.0 for entry.

This type of course:

  • is designed for upper intermediate-level English students who want to improve their academic English skills in preparation for further study at University or College in an English-speaking country. 
  • EAP provides a pathway to many Colleges and Universities in Australia

You will learn to:

  • Express facts, ideas, and opinions in writing, using correct and appropriate vocabulary, grammatical structures for academic purposes
  • Understand spoken English in conversations, discussions, and lectures and take notes
  • Speak clearly and confidently in English
  • Write well-structured and formatted texts of various types – such as essays – and understand academic texts
  • Understand and deliver seminar presentations in English in front of a group
  • Apply the skills and language studied in the IELTS examination.
  • How to reference texts correctly and how not to plagiarise
  • How to give a successful presentation and how to conduct a follow-up discussion
  • How to deal with high-level tasks at college or university level with confidence

Cambridge First (FCE)Advanced (CAE)Proficiency (CPE) and IELTS are all commonly used as proof of English language proficiency for academic study, migration, professional registration, and employment.

All Cambridge English candidates will receive a Statement of Results. The Statement of Results gives you two main pieces of information about a candidate’s performance:

  • Their overall score on the Cambridge English Scale
  • Their score on the Cambridge English Scale for each of the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) and Use of English

Candidates also receive a CEFR level and a grade.

Overal Score: This is the overall Cambridge English Scale score the whole exam. It is the average of the five individual scores a candidate receives for the four skills and Use of English The overall score is the most important piece of information when setting requirements to ensure that you ask for the exact level of English you need.

Individual Scores: Candidates receive a Cambridge English Scale score for each of the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) and Use of English. With these individuals scores, it is easy for you to specify the level of English you need in a particular language skill.

Cambridge exam features 4 main tests:

PET (Preliminary) – CEFR level B1

Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) qualification shows that you have mastered the basics of English and now have practical language skills for everyday use.

Cambridge English Preliminary qualification shows that you can:

  • read simple textbooks and articles in English
  • write letters and emails on everyday subjects
  • take meeting notes
  • show awareness in spoken and written English.

FCE (First) – CEFR Level B2

Cambridge English: First  (FCE) qualification shows that the student has the linguistic skills to live and work independently in an English speaking country. you have mastered the basics of English and now have practical language skills for everyday use.

Cambridge English Preliminary qualification shows that you can:

  • Communicate effectively face to face, express opinions and arguments
  • follow TV news
  • write clear, detailed English, expressing opinions and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different points of view
  • write letters, reports, stories

Reasons to choose Cambridge English: Preliminary:

  • FCE is accepted for entry to foundation/pathway/pre-sessional courses in English-speaking countries.
  • accepted for entry to undergraduate programmes taught in the medium of English in non-English-speaking countries

Exam format and duration

  • Reading & Use of English – 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Writing – 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Listening – 40 minutes
  • Speaking – 14 minutes

Total duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes

 

CAE (Advanced) – CEFR level C1

CPE (Proficiency) – CEFR level C2

Preparing for and passing the exam means you have the level of English that’s needed to study or work in a very senior professional or academic environment.

A Cambridge English Proficiency qualification provides you with the knowledge and skills you need to:

  • negotiate and persuade effectively at senior management level in international business settings
  • understand the main ideas of complex pieces of writing

  • Reading & Use of English – 1 hour 30 minutes

IELTS Preparation

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS), is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by the British CouncilIDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment, and was established in 1989. IELTS is one of the major English-language tests in the world.

IELTS is accepted by most AustralianBritishCanadian and New Zealand academic institutions, by over 3,000 academic institutions in the United States, and by various professional organizations across the world..

No minimum score is required to pass the test. An IELTS result or Test Report Form is issued to all test takers with a score from “band 1” (“non-user”) to “band 9” (“expert user”) and each institution set a different threshold. There is also a “band 0” score for those who did not attempt the test. Institutions are advised not to consider a report older than two years to be valid unless the user proves that they have worked to maintain their level.

IELTS evaluates all the aspects regarding the knowledge of English language: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking

Types of IELTS

There are two types of the IELTS test: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.

Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing components differs depending on which test you take.

The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

IELTS Academic

The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of the academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training. This approach is widely supported by the institutions that recognize IELTS.
